During the 2020 national lockdown, we wanted to find a way to allow people to meet safely and support each other. We are very aware that maintaining social networks is crucial, especially for those in recovery. So Share carried out regular weekly outdoor litter-picks in the Quarry Park in the centre of Shrewsbury. We used this activity as an opportunity to chat with our local community in a relaxed and informal way about the issues around addiction. We were generously supported by Shrewsbury Town Council, who provided the plastic bags, litter pickers and sanitiser which we needed.
We are grateful to our Share volunteer, Max Brown, who was the inspiration behind this initiative and who came up with the idea in the first place.
As a result of our efforts, Share was surprised and thrilled to receive a Shrewsbury Mayoral award in recognition of our efforts in supporting the community during the Coronavirus Pandemic of 2020.
