Reducing alcohol harm by sharing the truth about alcohol
We are a small charity, established in Shrewsbury in 2018, who want to make a difference to the lives of people and communities affected by alcohol addiction. We work to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and deliver early education and prevention programmes, particularly for young people.
Through honest conversations and real-life stories, we help individuals and communities make informed, safer choices around alcohol. Our work is inspired by our ten year vision called Live Free Shrewsbury which we are working towards.
As the founder, I learnt about addiction from my eldest daughter, Amy, who struggled with alcohol dependence all her adult life.
Watching her going slowly downhill, and being powerless to stop the progression of this dreadful disease, was a very painful experience for myself, our family and her friends.
I became an expert by experience and was shocked to find out that sufferers are sometimes denied adequate treatment, and that the stigma surrounding addiction is often evident, even amongst those very professionals who are there to support them.
In 2019 Amy died suddenly as a result of her addiction to alcohol and our lives changed forever.
Since then, Amy’s voice has become a thread running through everything we do, and Amy’s story has become a compelling narrative and the central theme of our workshops. It has proved to be a powerful way to get the prevention message across to people of all ages.
We’re proud to be featured on BBC Midlands Today. Learn how Amy’s story is helping young people stay safe and informed.
